Trump Makes Statement After Conversation with Putin

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that his conversation with President Vladimir Putin of Russia went very well. He made this statement in a post on the social media platform 'Truth Social'.

“I just finished a two-hour discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin. I think it went very well. Russia and Ukraine will soon start negotiations for a ceasefire and, more importantly, an end to the war. The terms will be negotiated between the two sides, as they should, because only they know the details of the negotiations that no one else is privy to.

The tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent. If it weren't so, I would say it now, not later. Russia wants to have extensive trade relations with the United States after this disastrous 'slaughter' comes to an end, and I agree.

Russia has a massive opportunity to create a tremendous number of jobs and wealth. Its potential is limitless. Likewise, Ukraine stands to benefit greatly from trade as it rebuilds its country.

Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will commence immediately. I informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb about this right after my conversation with President Putin.

The Vatican, through the Pope, has expressed a strong interest in facilitating the negotiations. Let the process begin,” wrote Trump.
