European Leaders Have Spoken with Trump: What to Expect
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, had a phone conversation yesterday with U.S. President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during which they discussed the Ukrainian conflict.
This was reported by Reuters, citing a representative from the office at 10 Downing Street.
It was noted that in anticipation of Trump's conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 19, Western leaders "discussed the necessity of an unconditional ceasefire" and urged Moscow to "seriously engage in peace negotiations."
Additionally, they declared their readiness to impose new sanctions against Russia if its leadership "refuses to seriously negotiate a ceasefire and peace."
Earlier, Trump wrote on his social media that he would have a conversation with Putin on May 19.
