Magnetic Storms and Geomagnetic Disturbances Expected

This weekend, magnetic storms are expected on Earth due to a large coronal hole that has formed on the Sun. This information comes from a report published on the website of the Solar Astrophysics Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“Significant changes in the geomagnetic environment are anticipated on Saturday and Sunday due to a strong increase in solar wind speed. The cause will be the large coronal hole,” the report states.

The probability of magnetic storms is estimated at around 30-40%, with the likelihood of geomagnetic disturbances also around 30-40%.
