HETC Has No Right to Do So: Mesrop Mesropyan

The Electric Networks of Armenia have no right to carry out any planned disconnection without first warning subscribers. If we have such facts, they are subject to investigation by the commission and appropriate penalties can be imposed on the company. However, since hospitals and similar facilities are considered first-class consumers in the state, it would be appropriate for them to have not only secondary power supply but also diesel generators.

This was stated in parliament by the Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, Mesrop Mesropyan, while presenting the commission's report on the sector's activities for 2024, in response to a question from MP Arsen Torosyan from the Civil Contract faction regarding possible electricity disconnections in medical institutions. Mesropyan noted that he is aware of the nuances of the issue raised by the MP.

According to him, the Electric Networks of Armenia are not exempt from their respective obligations if they do not warn ahead of planned disconnections. Regarding the existing issues in the telecommunications sector, he pointed out that we often happily note that we have a fairly high coverage rate in the republic, but this refers to the overall area coverage by one operator or another, which unfortunately does not mean that all our operators have the respective percentage of antennas or equipment.

The MP raised a question about the absence of communication in certain areas along interstate roads. The Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission informed that this issue is on their radar. “We are having discussions with our operators to reach an agreement that allows one another to use each other’s equipment so that ordinary subscribers do not face such problems. We will try to bring this to a logical conclusion since such complaints have been escalating recently,” he noted.
