Hayk Konjoryan Presents Government's Red Lines
It is evident that the path to peace is complicated, just like all complex paths, and there may be various zigzags on this road. We are pursuing this path; it is our political commitment. This was stated today, May 7, during a briefing with journalists in the National Assembly by Hayk Konjoryan, the head of the 'Civil Contract' faction, while addressing the peace process.
He emphasized that the government has promised peace to the people and is committed to that path. 'Often, people confuse the word peace with the difficult road to achieving peace, and say, ‘Is peace like this?’ Yes, reaching peace is hard; peace is a good thing, but the road to achieve it is tough. If peace depended only on us, it would be very quick. But since the conflict has two sides, achieving peace does not solely depend on us. This is just as all states that have experienced conflicts face difficulties,' he stated.
When asked at what cost peace would be achieved, he clarified, 'We have consistently declared our red lines, stating that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia are fundamental values for us, and there will be no retreat from this. We have indicated that more than 200 square kilometers of Armenian territory is occupied, but we do not set the task of returning those territories militarily because we believe that the issue can be resolved through demarcation.'
