Pallone Criticizes Trump for Not Using the Term 'Genocide'

President Trump's failure to mention the Armenian Genocide is a gift to deniers. This was stated by U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone on his Facebook page, referring to the fact that Donald Trump, unlike his predecessor, Democrat Joe Biden, did not use the term 'genocide' in his April 24 message, instead referring to the events of 1915 as the 'Great Catastrophe'.

'The recognition by the U.S. is official and irreversible, but his refusal to use the word genocide undermines the truth and dishonors the memory of the victims of 1915. History demands clarity, not cowardice,' wrote Pallone.

Just the day before, U.S. President Donald Trump sent a message in commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. 'Today we remember the Great Catastrophe and honor the memory of those who suffered in one of the most horrific disasters of the 20th century. Since 1915, one and a half million Armenians were exiled and condemned to death during the last years of the Ottoman Empire. On this day of remembrance, we again join the large Armenian community in America and around the world in mourning the countless lost lives. We look forward to continuing our strategic partnership with Armenia and supporting regional stability in an effort to achieve lasting prosperity and security,' he stated.
