Aliyev: We Are Taking Joint Steps with Armenia

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has met with Kaia Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, where they discussed energy cooperation and regional issues. According to Azerbaijani media, they also addressed the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process.

During the meeting, Kallas stated that the EU and Azerbaijan have established a successful and effective partnership in the energy sector. Referring to transport links, Kallas emphasized Azerbaijan's role as a key regional country.

Aliyev declared that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner for the European Union. He mentioned that Azerbaijan supplies gas to ten European countries, eight of which are EU members. The President noted that in terms of the geographical scope of gas supplies, Azerbaijan is one of the first countries to provide gas to the European territory.

He also highlighted Azerbaijan's importance in the development of the Trans-Caspian energy corridor and the implementation of projects involving Georgia, Romania, Hungary, and recently Bulgaria in the Black Sea region.

Ilham Aliyev stated that there are broad opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in the transport sector. The parties also exchanged views on ensuring lasting stability in the South Caucasus. According to Azerbaijani media, Aliyev mentioned that steps are currently being taken on a bilateral basis, and negotiations are underway to normalize relations with Armenia.
