I Want to Address You All: David Babayan Sends a Recording from Baku

Mariam Z.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh, David Babayan, has sent a phone recording from a Baku prison to 168.am through his family, which we present to our readers without alteration:

“Dear friends, people,

I want to address you all and say—don’t worry, everything is fine with us. New media outlets here have come out with information contradicting what I said regarding the events of Ivanyan in 1992. They have interpreted it in a way; I stated the complete opposite.

I stated that the real culprits of those events are precisely the Azerbaijani side, and it was a result of an internal governmental struggle. Moreover, I have never said that there is a reward for the liberation of Ivanyan. That has also been misphrased. Tomorrow, I will raise this issue during the court session.

Overall, we are fine. They treat us very well, especially in solitary confinement. We do not have any issues. Not once have they spoken poorly or cast a harsh glance our way.

Tomorrow is the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Spiritually, we are with you. I will also be spirit and thought at Tsitsernakaberd. Take care, stay strong, don’t worry about us,” said David Babayan.
