Draft to Suspend Transportation Fare Increase to be Discussed at City Council Session
The Permanent Committee on Financial and Economic Issues of Yerevan City Council has today given a positive conclusion to the draft that aims to suspend the increase of transportation fares. This was announced on social media by Gevorg Stepanyan, a member of the 'Mother Armenia' faction of the Yerevan City Council.
According to Stepanyan, the project proposed by 'Mother Armenia' received 8 votes in favor and 6 against. 'On April 22, during the City Council's session, we will vote on the draft that has already received a positive conclusion, and the final suspension will come into effect,' he wrote.
It’s noteworthy that the unified ticketing system came fully into force on January 1, and new tariffs have been in effect since February 1. A new fare for traveling tickets has also been introduced, costing 150 drams, which will be valid until January 1, 2026.
Several opposition political forces have been conducting protests in Yerevan’s public transport since February 1, urging passengers either not to pay the increased fare or to pay only 100 drams.
