Armenia Supports UN Resolution Containing Accusations Against Russia

Armenia has voted in favor of a UN General Assembly resolution that contains accusations against Russia, as reported by Sputnik.

The document, titled "Cooperation between the UN and regional and other organizations. Cooperation between the UN and the Council of Europe," was adopted with 105 votes in favor, while 9 countries, including the USA, voted against it, and 33 abstained. Azerbaijan and Israel did not participate in the vote.

The preamble of the resolution discusses "Russian aggression against Ukraine and Georgia." The resolution also mentions the work on the establishment of a special tribunal regarding the crimes of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN Jonathan Shrier stated that the U.S. appreciates the efforts of the Council of Europe aimed at promoting human rights, developing democracy, and advancing the rule of law. However, he noted that this resolution reiterates statements regarding the Russo-Ukrainian war, which the U.S. considers unhelpful for establishing peace between the two countries. At the same time, the U.S. hopes that the Council of Europe and all UN member states will support and reinforce efforts to achieve a comprehensive and durable peace between Russia and Ukraine.
