Gyumri Votes for Mayor: Details

The first session of the newly elected council has begun in Gyumri. Today, the council will elect a community mayor.

The session is chaired by Vardan Ghukasyan, the candidate for mayor from the Communist Party of Armenia, as he is the eldest member present.

Participating in the session are the factions of the «Communist Party of Armenia», «Our City», «Mother Armenia», and «My Powerful Community». The only absence is the «Civil Contract» party.

The session started with a prayer and the anthem of Gyumri. It is noteworthy that before the session, Vardan Ghukasyan responded to a question about the possibility of his election as mayor, stating: «I am not Nostradamus.»

It should be noted that only one candidate has been nominated for the position of community leader in Gyumri. The factions of «Mother Armenia», «My Powerful Community», and «Our City» did not propose a candidate from their lists, declaring that they would vote in favor of Vardan Ghukasyan, the candidate from the opposing camp that received the most votes, which is the Communist Party of Armenia.

After the nomination of the candidate, Vardan Ghukasyan announced a 30-minute break to prepare the ballots for the open voting.
