They Don't Want Us to Have a Border: Arsen Torosyan
“The opposition wants to drag us into a debate about who is more Turkish.” This was stated by ruling party MP Arsen Torosyan during his speech at the National Assembly.
“In reality, it is very difficult to resist this temptation and not get involved in that debate. Meanwhile, the opposition wants us not to be independent. Kristine Vardanyan is mentioning lists of Russian spies; they’re not here right now, maybe she needs to complete the list—it was not comprehensive,” said Torosyan, noting that delimitation has been an achievement.
“They do not want us to have a border, which is one of the most important attributes of statehood,” he said, referring to statements made by the parliament member from the Armenia faction, Kristine Vardanyan, claiming that the borders of the country were determined in the ruling party's office.
“No, Ms. Vardanyan, we did not decide and do not want to decide. The state border was determined when we became independent, which you were against and still are,” Torosyan stated.
The MP assured that the government will complete the border delimitation. “Don’t we want a border? You don’t want us to have a border so that it will be easier to lay us under different states afterward.”
Speaking about ongoing projects, Torosyan said, “Our main issue should be population growth. The statistics are unfortunate—this January-February, we have minus 500 births.” He noted that priorities need to be changed to solve the problem.
