Honorary Citizenship of Paris Awarded to Arrested Mayor of Istanbul

The Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, who has been arrested and suspended from his duties, has been granted honorary citizenship of Paris. This was reported by the French newspaper Figaro.

"Ekrem İmamoğlu is unjustly deprived of the opportunity to represent his party and the voices of millions of Turks today. He must feel the full support of Paris," said Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.

According to Hidalgo, such support could enable the current Turkish government to hear the voices of democratic reason.

This decision was unanimously adopted during a meeting of the Paris City Council.
