Artificial Intelligence: A New Solution for Preventing Sudden Cardiac Arrest

A team of international scientists from France and the United States has developed an innovative system based on artificial intelligence that can warn of the risk of sudden cardiac arrest, as reported in a study published in The Lancet scientific journal.

This AI algorithm, which mimics brain function, has been trained on the analysis of over 240,000 electrocardiograms. The system focuses on subtle changes in heart contractions and relaxations.

According to Laurent Fiore, a cardiologist at the Paris Cardiovascular Research Center, this technology has shown "impressive results." The AI has been able to predict with high accuracy 70% of cases of dangerous arrhythmias that might develop within the next two weeks, and only 0.1% of cases resulted in false positives.

The research notes that traditional methods often fail to effectively prevent sudden cardiac arrest, which leads to more than 5 million deaths annually. Many in the population have never had diagnosed heart problems.

The next phase will involve clinical trials. If the project's progress proves successful, the system is intended to be integrated into hospital equipment and, in the future, into wearable devices such as smartwatches, which will enable widespread screening and preventive diagnoses.
