UK Discovers Russian Sensors Spying on Submarines
Russian sensor devices, allegedly gathering information on the movement of Vanguard nuclear submarines, have been discovered off the coast of the United Kingdom. This was reported by the Sunday Times.
Several sensors were found as they had already washed ashore, with most recovered with the help of bomb disposal experts. These findings have been deemed a potential threat to national security in London.
It is believed that the devices were intended for espionage on the ‘Vanguard’ submarines, which are equipped with nuclear missiles. The UK has four of these submarines.
Even before Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, British intelligence had been aware that Moscow could utilize luxury yachts owned by Russian billionaires for underwater reconnaissance. The design of certain yachts allows for covert installation and retrieval of deep-sea reconnaissance and diving equipment.
