I Need to Be Convinced That Martun Grigoryan Will Not Join the Opposition: Ghukasian

No negotiations have yet taken place with Martun Grigoryan. This was stated by Vardan Ghukasian, a candidate for the mayor of Gyumri, during a press briefing.

"First, I need to be convinced that Martun Grigoryan will not join the opposition. Only then will we make our announcements regarding who is supporting the ruling Civil Contract party. I have heard Martun Grigoryan's statements that we should unite with the opposition and that the Civil Contract will not succeed in Gyumri. I hope that Martun Grigoryan will uphold our agreements. I do not view him as an enemy; we can sit down, discuss, and come to an agreement," he said.

Ghukasian noted that it is highly likely that Martun Grigoryan will join the opposition: "We are waiting for his word; I cannot make any statements at this time," he declared.

In response to the question of whether he might join Grigoryan to avoid conceding the mayor's position to the Civil Contract or possibly assign mayoral positions to other opposition forces, Ghukasian replied: "When such a situation arises, you will see what I can do. As for the positions in the municipality, the deputy mayor position is out of the question, but we are ready to assign the other positions that will be necessary," he said.
