Iran Refuses Direct Negotiations with the US
Iran has refused to engage in direct negotiations with the United States regarding its "rapidly expanding" nuclear program, stated the country's President Masoud Pezeshkian, according to CNN.
This marks Tehran's first official response to a letter from US President Donald Trump addressed to the country's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The letter, first reported by Axios, imposed a two-month deadline for the signing of a new nuclear agreement. However, it remains unclear from when this timeline is counted.
In response to the letter, conveyed through Oman, the possibility of indirect negotiations with Washington was omitted: "We are not shying away from negotiations. Until this moment, we were concerned about violations of promises. They (the US) need to prove that they are trustworthy," Pezeshkian remarked during a television address.
