Pentagon Chief Takes Wife to Secret Negotiations

Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth has brought his wife, former Fox News producer Jennifer Hegseth, to negotiations with foreign military leaders. According to The Wall Street Journal, citing RIA Novosti, these discussions involved two meetings where confidential information was discussed.

It is reported that one of the meetings took place on March 6 at the Pentagon and was related to the U.S. cessation of intelligence data transfers to Ukraine. The meeting included British Defense Secretary John Healey and Chief of the British Defense Staff Admiral Anthony Radakin.

The WSJ notes that theoretically, anyone can be invited to such meetings, but the participant lists are usually strictly limited to those whose presence is necessary.

Previously, the Pentagon chief had also been in the media spotlight. On March 24, Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, reported that U.S. officials had accidentally included him in a chat discussing strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen. The Pentagon denied this information, but the journalist posted screenshots.

National Security Council Press Secretary Brian Hughes promised to investigate how the journalist ended up in the chat. A lawsuit has been filed against members of the U.S. administration following the scandal related to the chat on Signal. The document also states that heads of state are required to copy messages and forward them to official information systems, but the chat on Signal was set for automatic deletion.
