Nuclear Weapons Abandoned by Ukraine Belonged to Russia, Trump Envoy

US Presidential Special Envoy for Negotiations Richard Grenell has called it an "inconvenient fact" that the nuclear weapons transferred to Ukraine under the Budapest Memorandum did not belong to Ukraine, but were instead the property of Russia.

“Let’s clarify the situation regarding the Budapest Memorandum. The nuclear weapons belonged to Russia. Ukraine returned the nuclear weapons to Russia. They did not belong to Ukraine. That is an inconvenient fact,” he wrote.
