Trump Reduces Previously Allocated Foreign Aid
The White House has announced that U.S. President Donald Trump will reduce the previously allocated "emergency budget expenditures" by nearly $3 billion, of which $2.5 billion was intended for foreign aid. This information is provided by the Semafor portal.
Trump will decrease the amount of emergency funds allocated under the 2023 federal debt increase bill, which was approved by former President Joe Biden's administration. According to the portal, the approximately $2.5 billion that Trump plans to cut was meant for foreign aid, including support for NGOs working on migration and refugee issues, as well as projects related to economic development and inclusion in Moldova and Georgia.
However, the funding will not affect military assistance provided to allies, including Ukraine. One official told the portal that part of the foreign aid funding “was not thoroughly vetted and well thought out.”
