Simonyan on Excluded Status of Detainees from Agreement
After the war, we had 153 captives, and today we have 23 captives, of which 12 are political leaders. This was announced by the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan.
“This work continues, and it has been mentioned. This is not the issue that should be enshrined in the agreement. It is not a matter of enshrining it there, and that work continues outside of the agreement. The agreement may not be signed for another two years, but we are doing everything possible to ensure that our captives return as soon as possible, so there is no occasion or reason to raise that issue there,” he said.
Regarding the general agreement and why it is not presented to the public, Simonyan stated that the Prime Minister has publicly addressed it, noting that the agreement has two sides and that, without it, the Armenian side has discussed it quite publicly.
“There is no clause in the agreement that is unilateral; all clauses equally relate to both Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia,” he concluded.
