Azerbaijan's Appetite Has Significantly Opened Up: Abrahamyan

Azerbaijan is refusing to sign the document negotiated with Armenia due to the defeatist policies of the ruling power in Armenia, which have significantly heightened Azerbaijan's political appetite. This was stated by Tigran Abrahamyan, the secretary of the 'Honorary Title' faction in the National Assembly.

“Currently, Azerbaijan is revising the next batch of demands imposed on Armenia, and in order to demonstrate the seriousness of its actions, it is also provoking tensions along the front line. By infusing tension at the border, Azerbaijan is addressing the following issues: first, it threatens that Armenia's non-fulfillment of its new preconditions will increase tension at the front line, bringing various manifestations of provocation and aggression. Second, using a terrorist toolkit against border villages, it is trying to exert influence over the Armenian society. Third, Azerbaijan, having not digested the consequences of the 44-day war, the aggression against Armenia, and the policy of occupation, is trying to carry out psychological attacks on the Armed Forces of Armenia.

The situation has become increasingly unpredictable and uncertain, considering that, on the one hand, the Armenian authorities refuse to ensure publicity even regarding the agreed-upon and signable document, escalating the public's expectations that yet another capitulation is being prepared for Armenia; and on the other hand, the Armenian authorities are concealing the objective situation on the front line and failing to provide any significant information to the public about the ongoing behind-the-scenes negotiations. The concerns of the authorities, of course, are understandable. It is complicated and dangerous to tell the public the reality that has been distorted and presented with entirely different nuances for years.

The authorities promised to negotiate peace, while in reality, they have been buying time to secure the demands imposed by Azerbaijan, which have increasingly rendered both Armenia and its citizens more vulnerable. The invocation of Turkish-Azerbaijani benevolence during this period has had one objective for the authorities—ensuring guarantees for their own safety and the prolongation of their power, in exchange for conceding both Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the opportunity to rise again. This is the myth of peace proclaimed by the authorities and the propaganda bubble they have painted, which can be deflated with a single prick,” said Abrahamyan.
