We Are Closely Watching the Events: Erdogan

“We are closely watching the events.” This statement was made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against the backdrop of ongoing protests in the country, calling on the opposition not to “play with the nerves of the Turkish people.”

“I have already called on you several times to stop disturbing our citizens’ peace through provocations. If you have the courage, be accountable for corruption, theft, bribery, and violations committed. If you guarantee the allegations of the current investigations and the arrested individuals, come out and openly talk about it. If you do not intend to do so, do not play with the nerves of the people,” the President stated in a message to the public following a cabinet meeting.

It is noteworthy that protests against the arrested Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, a member of the opposition Republican People’s Party, have continued since last week in Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, and several other cities.
