What Proposal Has the U.S. Made to Ukraine
The U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz have issued a joint statement regarding the conversation between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that took place yesterday.
According to the statement, the leaders have agreed that Ukraine and the U.S. will continue to work together to genuinely end the war. Additionally, Trump provided Zelensky with detailed information about his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the key issues discussed.
"The leaders of both countries have agreed on a ceasefire in terms of energy. Technical teams will meet shortly in Saudi Arabia to discuss extending the ceasefire regime into the Black Sea. They agreed that this could be the first step towards a complete end to the war and ensuring security," the statement said.
Trump also discussed issues related to the supply of electricity in Ukraine and nuclear plants. He mentioned that the U.S. could provide significant assistance in managing these plants based on its experience in the electricity and utility sectors.
"The ownership of these plants by the U.S. would be the best protection for that infrastructure and support for Ukraine's energy sector," the statement indicated.
Zelensky also expressed gratitude to Trump for humanitarian matters, including the exchange of prisoners. He noted that a new successful exchange had taken place and thanked the U.S. president for his leadership.
Trump also inquired about the missing children in Ukraine during the war, including those who have been abducted. He pledged to work closely with both sides to help ensure the return of these children home.
They agreed that all parties should continue efforts to reach a ceasefire. The presidents emphasized that in future meetings, their teams could agree on all necessary aspects to move towards sustainable peace and security.
