Car Plows Into Protesters in Belgrade, Injuries Reported

Lilit A.

In the Serbian capital of Belgrade, a car has plowed into a group of protesters, resulting in injuries to three individuals. The 50-year-old driver of the vehicle has been arrested and reportedly resisted arrest during the incident, according to local media reports. The injured have been transported to the hospital.

Today's incident occurs during one of the largest protests in recent times in Belgrade, with authorities taking measures to ensure the safety of local residents. Public transport has been halted in the city.

More than 30,000 people have taken to the streets in Belgrade, with the majority being students from across the country. It is worth noting that protests by students and opposition supporters have been ongoing in Serbia for four months following the roof collapse at the Novi Sad railway station on November 1, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of 15 people. President Vucic has repeatedly stated that the protests aim to overthrow the government and alleged they are supported by Western-funded media and organizations.
