Prime Minister on Genocide: Pashinyan Answers Questions from Turkish Journalists

“The international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is not among our foreign policy priorities today,” stated Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with Turkish journalists. He hinted at accusations of «denying the Great Genocide», but emphasized that the matter is not about that, as, according to Pashinyan, “it is an undeniable truth in Armenia and among the Armenian people.” However, as he pointed out, it is essential to distinguish between “serving state interests and historical truths.”

“The question arises as to where and how we should focus on serving the state interests of Armenia and where and how we should concentrate on highlighting our known historical truths. This is important because the period during which this great tragedy occurred was a time when the Republic of Armenia did not exist. Today, there is a Republic of Armenia—an internationally recognized state, and that internationally recognized state has the ability to ensure the security and well-being of its citizens, but certain conditions are necessary for that,” said Pashinyan.
