Arpine Sargsyan Comments on the Detention of Khachatur Sukiasyan and Arthur Vanetsyan's Bodyguards

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Arpine Sargsyan, addressed the issue of police detaining the bodyguards of MP Khachatur Sukiasyan on suspicion of illegal weapon possession during a press briefing after a government meeting on March 13. She stated that in the case of operational data regarding the presence of weapons or drug use, there is no distinction concerning who the information pertains to.

“If the information exists, it must be acted upon. The use of the information can lead to successful results, meaning the data could be real, but it may also ultimately be unreliable,” the minister noted.

In response to a question about how many times illegal weapons have been found, for example, in the cars accompanying Khachatur Tsuyakyan or Arthur Vanetsyan, she reacted by saying, “You are personalizing; I am bringing up a more general approach. For one individual, this may be confirmed, while for another, it may not be. However, it is simply unacceptable for the police to disregard operational data.”

When asked if she would order her bodyguard's vehicle to be searched if there were current claims of illegal weapons, the minister smiled and replied, “Yes, there is a weapon in my accompanying vehicle, but it is legal.”
