Zelensky Explains Why He Agreed to U.S. Proposal
Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire across its territory based on a U.S. proposal to demonstrate its readiness for peace. This announcement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky noted that prior to the meeting in Saudi Arabia between Ukraine and the U.S., discussions had taken place regarding a ceasefire in the air and at sea. However, later the American side proposed a different approach.
According to Zelensky, during the middle of the meeting, his Ukrainian team contacted him and the U.S. side, represented by President Donald Trump, raised the question of whether Kyiv was prepared to take steps to ensure a ceasefire across the territory.
“I have emphasized this many times, no one trusts the Russians; we have been through this, but we will not play into the narratives that we do not want the war to end. I am very serious, and it is important for me to end the war. I want the U.S. President to see this so that Europe and everyone else in the alliance can make Russia stop the war. Therefore, my response was that we are ready for a 30-day silence in the format proposed by the American side,” clarified the President of Ukraine.
