Armenia Ready for This Without Any Preconditions: Ruben Rubinyan

The approach of Armenia regarding the normalization of relations with Turkey has not changed from the start of the process to the present. Armenia is fully prepared for the normalization of relations with Turkey. This was stated by Ruben Rubinyan, Armenia’s special representative for the Armenia-Turkey normalization process and Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, in an interview with Turkish NTV.

“We expect a complete normalization of relations with Turkey, which includes the establishment of diplomatic relations and the unblocking of Armenia's land border. Armenia is ready for this without any preconditions. Armenia is prepared for a full normalization, and if Turkey has similar political will, all this can happen very quickly. Armenia is ready to open the border with Turkey and is waiting for Turkey's move,” said Rubinyan.

He also mentioned that there is no reason for Armenia and Turkey not to have diplomatic relations and for the borders between the countries not to be open. Rubinyan emphasized that the Margara border checkpoint has been renovated and is in readiness, and the expectation is the same from Turkish partners. An agreement has also been reached to renovate or reconstruct the bridge located on the border.

“So far, the most important agreement has been to open the border for citizens of third countries and holders of diplomatic passports, which was achieved in 2022,” concluded Rubinyan.
