But what will they be keeping? Lavrov
Before the preliminary steps for resolution, proposals to send peacekeepers to the Ukrainian conflict zone resemble attempts to save the Kyiv authorities. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"There are many proposals regarding declaring a ceasefire, deploying peacekeepers, and only then delineating borders. Now everyone is talking about peacekeepers, already discussing whether 10,000 will be enough, or perhaps 50,000 or 100,000 are needed. We have a simple question - what will the peacekeepers be keeping, the remnants of Kyiv's Nazi regime, which has adopted a number of laws destroying Russian culture, the Russian language, and Russian media, and has banned the canonical Russian Orthodox Church," said the Russian Foreign Minister after talks with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid in Moscow.
Lavrov is convinced that it is necessary to first understand how to achieve a ceasefire; otherwise, the topic of deploying peacekeepers resembles an attempt to save the remnants of the Kyiv regime from the people's wrath.
Regarding the possible participation of the OSCE in resolving the Ukrainian conflict, the Russian Foreign Minister noted that Moscow has numerous reservations regarding the OSCE's observation mission (operating in the region from 2014 to 2022), including that they do not want to clarify who is more guilty for the destruction of civilian infrastructure and targeted artillery attacks on the civilian population.
There are accumulated issues regarding the mission's activities, including facts regarding the provision of information to the Ukrainian side, which is a gross violation of the principle of neutrality.
