Genocidal Actions Taking Place in Syria, Including Against Armenians: Sevak Hakobyan

Currently, the Armenian-populated city of Kessab in the Lattakia province of the Syrian Arab Republic is relatively calm. This was reported by Sevak Hakobyan, the editor-in-chief of the 'Zartonk' newspaper, in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.

As in recent days, the situation remains tense in the Aleppo regions of Syria, with genocidal actions continuing. Hakobyan mentioned that horrendous acts are being committed against Aleppo residents in the Lattakia and Tartus provinces. He emphasized that the two terrorist organizations operating in Syria, 'Hamzat' and 'Amshat', which are composed of extremists and mercenaries and are financed by Turkey, are conducting genocidal actions against Aleppo residents, as well as other ethnic minorities, including Armenians.

'A few days ago, the Aleppo residents attempted to rebel against the current authorities, after which everything started. Now, the terrorists are entering the homes of ethnic minorities, claiming that the residents collaborated with the former leadership of the country and are taking the men of the houses away. Of course, they later settle accounts with them, so they can similarly act towards women and children in the future. This is certainly reminiscent of familiar Turkish tactics. It is relatively calm in Kessab now, and no incidents have been recorded there. However, the danger remains as long as the region is controlled by Turkish-backed militants,' Hakobyan noted.

The editor-in-chief pointed out that what is happening in Syria today is directly related to Armenia as well. He stressed that the Turkish factor plays a role in the events occurring in Syria, and the same could happen in Armenia.

Please note that in late November 2024, armed opposition groups launched a large-scale attack on the positions of the Syrian army. On December 8, they entered Damascus, after which President Bashar al-Assad resigned and left the country. On December 10, Mohammed al-Bashir, who led the 'Salvation Government' operating in the Idlib province, declared himself the leader of Syria's transitional government. The transitional government will operate until March 1, 2025.
