Syria's Authorities Make Statement Amid Horrific Situation in the Country
The new authorities in Syria will not allow external forces or local factions to plunge the country into a civil war. This was announced by Ahmed al-Sharaa, the president of the transitional Arab Republic, commenting on the deteriorating situation in the west of the country.
“Today, we are facing a new danger posed by the remnants of the previous regime and the external forces behind them, attempting to incite new disputes and draw our country into a civil war with the aim of dividing it and destroying its unity and stability,” al-Sharaa said in a video message published on his office's Telegram channel.
“Syria will remain resilient, and we will not allow external forces or local factions to draw it into chaos or civil war,” promised the leader of Damascus's new administration.
On March 6, clashes erupted in the provinces of Latakia, Tartus, and Homs between security forces loyal to the new authorities of Syria and supporters of former President Bashar al-Assad. The heaviest gunfire occurred in the city of Jableh, where the Alawites, a religious minority to which the Assad family belongs, reside. Authorities have deployed army units and armored vehicles to the aforementioned provinces, and curfews have been imposed in major cities.
