Amid Tensions, Armenians in Latakia Instructed Not to Leave Their Homes
In the city of Latakia, Syria, a tense situation has been unfolding over the past two days. Residents have reported hearing disturbances and sounds of clashes but have limited information on the specifics of the incidents. Naïri Karapetyan, a correspondent for the Armenian publication 'Gandzasar' in Latakia, informed 'Factinfo' that community leaders have advised locals to remain indoors. Armenian schools and churches are closed as a precautionary measure.
According to Karapetyan, information about the clashes is primarily gathered from Arab television channels, with residents only able to hear the external sounds from their homes. 'Security forces are trying to stabilize the situation; a curfew was declared from last night until 10 AM, but it was later extended until 9 PM tonight. We, Armenians, are waiting for the situation to calm down,' he noted, adding that the Armenian schools and churches will reopen only when they are assured of safety.
