From the Door of the Nobel Prize, We Take and Bring Back to Armenia: Pashinyan
In the case of the Luys Foundation, only about 20 percent of scholarship recipients have returned and made any investment in the country's economy. This was stated by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan while presenting details.
In response to this topic, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, “Only 20 percent of those who received scholarships from the Luys Foundation have returned to Armenia, therefore, it turns out that under the financing of education, we are funding emigration. This is a fact that we need to address. I am not delving into the reasons, but we do not address such problems; however, we need to understand what this phenomenon is. A contract is signed, they go to study, and then they do not return.”
The Prime Minister concluded by noting that this issue has come up multiple times in the agenda but has not been discussed. “It would be more appropriate when specific companies have a need for specialists, we should try to assist in that way. It is more challenging for a private entity to fail to fulfill obligations compared to the government. And if we take steps now to ensure that these individuals return to Armenia after their education, I am convinced that a national movement will begin, where the Armenian government does not allow dozens of thousands of our compatriots to receive the Nobel Prize and we will take them from the door of the Nobel Prize and bring them back to Armenia,” Pashinyan concluded his speech.
