Details on the Agreement Between Lavrov and Rubio
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has commented on the outcomes of the discussions held with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Riyadh.
The Russian Foreign Minister announced that the delegations from Russia and the United States reached an agreement to create conditions for the resolution in Ukraine during their negotiations in Saudi Arabia, aiming to fully resume cooperation between Moscow and Washington.
"Russia and the U.S. have agreed that a Ukrainian resolution process will be formed in the near future, and negotiators have been appointed," said Lavrov, adding that "the U.S. will notify who will represent them in the Ukraine resolution discussions, and Russia will act in the same manner immediately."
Lavrov made further statements, explaining to their American counterparts that the presence of NATO forces in Ukraine is unacceptable, noting that NATO expansion is a direct threat to Russia's interests. He also informed that Russia and the U.S. agreed to ensure the prompt appointment of ambassadors in Washington and Moscow.
Deputies from both countries' diplomatic departments will agree on a meeting date. Reports indicate that the representatives of Russia and the U.S. have been tasked with discussing what needs to be done to prepare for a meeting between Putin and Trump.
