Levon Ter-Petrosyan Writes a Note

The First President of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, writes:

“Finally, I had the opportunity to read Arman Grigoryan’s article titled ‘Revolutionary Governments, Recklessness, and Wars: The Case of the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War,’ published last year in Security Studies and also translated and published in Ilur (October 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 2024).

I believe this is not only a convincing and interesting work about the causes of that war but also an important analysis of the distorted evolution of political and intellectual life in Armenia overall.

The work serves as an example of when and how political science theories can be useful for understanding real-world issues. Grigoryan’s theory about revolutions as mechanisms of negative selection provides a unique key to understanding the disaster that has befallen Armenia (and not only Armenia).
