US Cuts Aid to Ukraine's Prosecutor's Office, Reuters Reports

Under President Joe Biden, the US has funded at least six projects related to the events of the Ukrainian conflict for the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Reuters reports.

“The suspension of foreign aid by the Trump administration has begun to affect international efforts to hold Russia accountable for alleged war crimes in Ukraine... The six projects funded by the Prosecutor's Office, worth $89 million, are at risk,” the agency's statement reads.

According to sources cited by Reuters, funding for at least five of these projects has already been suspended. Documents obtained by the agency indicate that two projects received funds from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), three from the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs of the US State Department, and one directly from the State Department itself.

Previously, former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who was dismissed in 2016, accused Biden of corruption, claiming he lost his position due to the alleged “payoff” for his dismissal and pressure from Washington. Shokin has written to law enforcement authorities about Biden's interference in his work.

“Ukrainian News,” citing a source from the State Bureau of Investigations, reports that a case has been initiated in Ukraine regarding the possible interference of a US citizen in Shokin’s work.
