Shots Fired at Criminal Police Officers: Details

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Narek Sargsyan, reported that on February 9, the Kotayk Regional Community Police received information about a dispute in the village of Jrarber, during which gunshots were also heard.

Shortly thereafter, a report was received at the Ministry of Internal Affairs from the Abovyan Medical Center indicating that two men, a 36-year-old from the village of Byurakn in Shirak Province with a gunshot wound, and a 40-year-old from the village of Berqaber, were seeking medical assistance.

As a result of joint measures taken by the Kotayk Criminal Investigation and Community Police, information was obtained indicating that, according to preliminary data, a 48-year-old man from the Kotayk region had gone to the home of a 40-year-old man in Nor Gyugh community with the intention to kill, and attacked a 36-year-old man present there.

He struck the 36-year-old man's head with an electronic saw, took an axe, struck him again, and then fired shots from his nearby firearm towards the Kia vehicle driven by the 40-year-old man, resulting in the latter suffering a gunshot wound.

To prevent possible developments, criminal police officers visited the 48-year-old man's residence to arrest him. Upon seeing the police, he attempted to flee in his vehicle. During the pursuit, he reached a gas station on Yerevanyan Highway in Kanakeravan village, parked the car, and fired two shots at the criminal police officers, one of which hit the service vehicle.

During the pursuit, when he fired shots again towards them, a criminal police officer fired two warning shots into the air from his service "Makarov" pistol, and then shot once towards the vehicle's tire. Responding patrol officers managed to stop the fleeing vehicle. The man was neutralized and arrested.

A personal search revealed a loaded "Makarov" type pistol in his possession. The magazine contained one additional bullet, and in his pocket, 3.15 grams of a greenish substance was found.

The arrested individual was presented along with the obtained documents to the preliminary investigation authorities.
