Goods Exported from Armenia Will Be Marked with Digital Identification Means

Goods exported from Armenia will be marked with digital identification means for the Eurasian Economic Union market. The government responded positively to the project during its regular meeting on February 6.

According to the head of the State Revenue Committee, the project pertains to the markets of alcoholic beverages, water, and tobacco, as well as other goods subject to marking. The head of the SRC noted that the old system was untraceable, with marking done at the importer and producer levels. However, under the new agreement of the Eurasian Economic Union established in 2018, Armenia and other member countries are obliged to implement a new marking system for products using identification means.

Eduard Hakobyan pointed out that the implementation of the digital marking is proposed to be done in phases, with different timelines set for various product groups. For instance, beverages and canned goods will be marked starting March 1, 2025, dairy products from June 1, 2025, and oils from September 1, 2025. Medicines, cosmetics, and perfumes will follow on January 1, 2026. He emphasized that this will allow organizations to have a mutually recognizable system.

“Those entrepreneurs who trade with EEU countries will have their products recognized there, as well as the products from there will be recognized in Armenia. Another aspect is aggregation, meaning entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to mark products collectively, which will also help reduce certain expenses,” Hakobyan stated, adding that this way, the state will be able to monitor the movement of goods with precision and maintain control over shadow economic activities, as well as allow for this system to be implemented in other agencies.
