Air Dilijan Airline Stripped of Air Operator Certificate Ahead of Schedule
The Armenian airline Air Dilijan (previously known as Aviacompany Armenia from 2015 to 2023) has been prematurely stripped of its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) as of February 3. This was reported by Hetq.
It is noted that this certificate is essential for any airline to conduct commercial operations. Although Air Dilijan's AOC was valid until February 2026, the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia (CAC) suspended its operation for six months beginning on August 1, 2024, which would last until February 1 of this year. This measure was in line with current legislation.
The procedure for granting an AOC stipulates that a carrier must own or lease at least one serviceable aircraft or have a memorandum of understanding for the acquisition, lease, or sublease of at least one serviceable aircraft in order to obtain or maintain the certificate.
Air Dilijan's sole aircraft was removed from the Armenian registry at the end of July and subsequently registered in Georgia, from where it had been transferred to Armenia in 2016.
It is important to note that Air Dilijan is a company with Georgian capital. The 51% owner is Robert Oganesyan, an Armenian citizen of Tbilisi, who is also the director, while the remaining 49% belongs to Tamaz Gaiashvili, a Georgian national and the founder of Georgian Airways.
