Zakharova Comments on Suspension of USAID Website Operations

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has commented on the suspension of the USAID website. The website ceased operations following reports that the new U.S. president might completely close the International Development Agency.

In her Telegram channel, the diplomat sarcastically suggested that if the website were to be 'renovated,' the organization should be renamed to 'Self-Help Agency.' She added, 'Possible activities could include updating the U.S. fire safety system, promoting the return of natural gender, and investigating the corrupt schemes of previous American administrations.'

Earlier, Politico reported on the possibility of USAID's closure. According to the publication, the agency is expected to be incorporated into the State Department, thereby stripping it of its independent status. It was noted that Trump did not appoint an administrator for USAID, allowing a State Department official to effectively oversee the agency.

The agency was involved in multi-billion dollar funding for American projects worldwide. However, at the end of January, Secretary of State Mark Rubio announced the freezing of American aid within 90 days.
