What Was Nagorno-Karabakh Aliyev's That He Was Ready to Give Up: Pashinyan

Edita

This means, was Nagorno-Karabakh Aliyev's in 1999, that you were also pleased that he was ready to give up Karabakh? I no longer invite former presidents to debate; there is nothing to debate about.

This was stated by Nikol Pashinyan while commenting on a publication released by the U.S. State Department through Azatutyun, according to which Heydar Aliyev and Robert Kocharian discussed conceding Meghri in exchange for Nagorno-Karabakh.

'What are you giving from Armenia's sovereign territory to Azerbaijan to take Nagorno-Karabakh? If I give you my watch, you give me yours, do I now recognize that this watch belongs to you, or do I not recognize it? The strategic importance of Meghri is obvious, and there is nothing to discuss there. If you do not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, why are you giving away a part of your country's sovereign territory to take Nagorno-Karabakh?' he said.

Pashinyan also noted the comment made by former Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian, who mentioned that he and Vazgen Sargsyan were also present during the Robert Kocharian-Heydar Aliyev meeting. He said that when Kocharian came out, he mentioned that Aliyev said that he was ready to give up Karabakh. 'Why was Karabakh Aliyev's that he was ready to give up? So in 1999, was Nagorno-Karabakh considered Aliyev's, that you were also ready to give it up? I can now say — I do not invite former presidents to debate, because the published documents have rendered the debate meaningless,' he remarked.
