Pashinyan Reveals Proposals Made to Azerbaijan

There are still two unresolved points in the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a press conference, adding that Yerevan has proposed solutions on both issues. One of the unresolved points pertains to the deployment of representatives of third countries’ forces along the border. In this regard, Yerevan suggests applying this to the demarcated sections.

The second point relates to the withdrawal of legal claims from international forums. "Under certain circumstances, it may be acceptable for us. The idea is that we need to ensure that we are not only withdrawing from international forums but also abandoning these disputes altogether, otherwise a situation may arise where we withdraw one claim, Azerbaijan withdraws another, but in the next phase, Azerbaijan could raise these issues in bilateral relations, leading to escalations around them," said Nikol Pashinyan.

Recall that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced this week that Azerbaijan is taking practical steps towards the opening of the "Zangezur Corridor," demanding from Yerevan an unobstructed route from Azerbaijan to its exclave Nakhchivan without inspections.

"We have made a concrete proposal to Azerbaijan, offering a solution that aims for cargo transportation by railway from the eastern regions of Azerbaijan to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and vice versa, but similarly from Yeraskh to Meghri. The first option is clear — through the territory of Armenia," Pashinyan responded to Aliyev.

He stated that they are awaiting a positive response from Baku, adding that he cannot understand why this proposal should be rejected. "Whatever solution it is, they will name it their way, we will name it our way, but the content is what is important, and the content we have proposed is absolutely acceptable and fully aligns with the principles articulated within the 'Peace Crossroads' program, as well as meeting the expectations raised by Azerbaijan," he noted.

"We are not opposed to unobstructed communication, but unobstructed does not mean bypassing the jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia," Pashinyan declared.
