When Talking About Transit, We Must Mention Azerbaijan: Mirzoyan to Georgian Foreign Minister
In 2024, the relations between Armenia and Georgia have made significant tangible progress. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, during a joint press conference with his Georgian counterpart.
“Of course, it must be acknowledged that our relations have historically been of a strategic partnership nature between our two countries and our two peoples. However, this new document represents an officially new quality in these relations. It opens new opportunities for us in terms of political dialogue, economic cooperation, and other areas such as humanitarian, education, science, and more,” the minister stated.
Mirzoyan emphasized that he and Minister Bujorisvili summed up the joint accomplishments of the two countries over the past year and outlined future tasks. “We have noted that there is real dialogue at both high and senior levels between Armenia and Georgia, including between the two foreign ministries. Naturally, we are also guided by our ministry's agenda, fostering good cooperation between the two foreign ministries, maintaining constant contact, consultations, and official discussions. We discussed economic issues, transit transport matters, and can highlight the enormous potential that the South Caucasus region holds, including Armenia and Georgia. Of course, when discussing transit through the South Caucasus, we must also mention Azerbaijan. You are all aware of Armenia’s initiative in this context, the peace crossroads, which suggests active cooperation among the three countries in terms of economic and transport issues. Our government’s position regarding the process of normalizing relations with Azerbaijan remains unchanged; we are committed to and will pursue the peace agenda, which pertains to both the peace agreement and the unblocking of transport infrastructures, as well as border demarcation. There are achievements and arrangements in the process of border demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan as well. Moreover, we share the same belief and commitment to the border demarcation process between Armenia and Georgia and are ready to continue this process,” Mirzoyan stated.
