Pavel Durov Links DeepSeek's Success to Soviet Educational Standards
China has made significant advances in the field of artificial intelligence technologies, even surpassing the United States, according to Telegram founder Pavel Durov. He stated that it all comes down to quality education, and Americans need to consider raising their educational standards to compete with Beijing.
“After the success of DeepSeek, many are surprised at how quickly China has caught up to the U.S. in AI. However, the progress of China in the realm of algorithmic efficiency did not arise from a vacuum,” explained the entrepreneur. He pointed out that Chinese students have long outperformed American students in programming and mathematics.
Durov is confident that Beijing has achieved such success thanks to the expertise inherited from the Soviet Union. According to Durov, it was the Soviet Union that was a leader in the level of specialist training.
For example, in China, conditions of fierce competition among students are created based on the Soviet model, while Western schools avoid competition and promote a greenhouse environment during education, leading to the demotivation of top students.
“As long as the U.S. secondary education system remains fundamentally unreformed, China's growing dominance in technology appears inevitable,” concluded Durov.
