Coca-Cola Recalls Products from Several European Countries

Coca-Cola has announced a recall of its beverages in certain European countries after it was discovered that they contained high levels of the chemical chlorate. The company stated that it is recalling products from warehouses in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, specifying that items from this batch were shipped to Great Britain at the end of last year, and all of it has already been consumed.

Chlorate can occur when chlorine-based disinfectants are used in water purification and the food industry. A company representative told the BBC, “Independent expert analysis indicates that the risk to consumers is very low.” Coca-Cola confirmed that it has received no complaints from British consumers and will continue to cooperate with UK authorities on this matter.

High levels of chlorate can have negative health effects and lead to thyroid issues, especially in children and infants.
