Four Ways to End the Ukraine Conflict: The Times

The military operations in Ukraine could end in four ways, according to military correspondent Anthony Lloyd from The Times.

He states that the first scenario involves an obvious military defeat for Ukraine due to a reduction in military assistance from the United States.

The second scenario, which Lloyd describes as a 'bad peace', entails the Ukrainian authorities entering negotiations with Moscow from a position of weakness and Ukraine's ceding of some territories, which would also be considered a victory for Russia and a defeat for Kyiv and its NATO allies.

As the third option for ending the conflict, the military correspondent mentions a ceasefire. He clarifies that this scenario, if followed by a peace treaty, could lead to regional stability and security guarantees for Ukraine. However, without any agreement, a ceasefire would merely freeze the conflict, posing a threat of renewed fighting in the future, Lloyd adds.

The Times correspondent notes that the fourth way to end the conflict would be to arm Ukraine more heavily and impose new sanctions against Russia, so that Kyiv can negotiate from a position of strength. At the same time, the author points out that Ukraine is unlikely to be able to reclaim all lost territories regardless.
