Of Course. Deputy Foreign Minister on the Withdrawal of Russian Border Guards
The arrival of a team from the US regarding customs and border control in Armenia is related to enhancing the effectiveness of border management in the Republic of Armenia, and not to any sensitive aspects with any specific country. This was stated by Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, during a conversation with reporters.
He noted that the Armenian side had discussions on this topic with Iran, and no concerns were expressed. “I don’t see any issues that we could not reach an agreement on with the Iranian side; our relations are at an unprecedented high level,” said the Deputy Foreign Minister.
“We must finally control our border ourselves,” he added.
In response to the question of whether it is possible for Russian border guards to withdraw from the Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Iranian borders, the Deputy Foreign Minister replied, “Of course, in an ideal world, every country should be able to control its own borders.”
It should be noted that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had announced that from December 30, 2024, border control at the Agarak border checkpoint on the Armenia-Iran state border will be carried out solely by the Border Troops of the Republic of Armenia.
