Ruban Vardanyan Deprived of Water for Over Two Days in Baku Prison: BBC

The BBC's Russian service has addressed the hardships faced by Armenian political prisoner and former Prime Minister of Artsakh, Ruben Vardanyan, who is being unlawfully held in an Azerbaijani prison.

The agency has detailed the days Vardanyan spent in a punishment cell during a hunger strike. Citing a statement by Jared Genser, an American lawyer hired by Vardanyan’s family, the publication notes: “The light in the punishment cell has been on 24 hours a day, leading to sleep deprivation and exhaustion. Furthermore, Vardanyan has been forced to stand for long periods and was deprived of water for over two days. Additionally, he has been denied the opportunity to change his bedding and clothes or to wash, forced to sleep on a dirty mattress, and prohibited from writing or reading. Hygiene supplies have also not been provided.”

The report also indicates that during the hunger strike, Ruben Vardanyan was not subjected to any medical examination.
