The agreement between the Palestinian Hamas movement and Israel will come into effect on Sunday, January 19. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani.

“Qatar, Egypt, and the United States are pleased to announce the success of their joint mediation efforts, resulting in the warring parties in Gaza agreeing on the exchange of hostages and prisoners and the restoration of peace to establish a ceasefire,” he said at a press conference.

According to him, “both sides and the negotiators have agreed to complete all technical procedures this evening, after which the Israeli government will finalize internal procedures, and the implementation of the agreement will begin on Sunday, January 19.”

The Qatari Prime Minister noted that the timing for the commencement of the agreement's implementation will be defined later.

“The first phase of the agreement will last for 42 days, during which a ceasefire will be confirmed, Israeli forces will withdraw east away from civilian areas to be positioned at the borders of all regions of Gaza. The exchange of hostages and prisoners will be carried out according to a specific mechanism,” he said.

“As for the details of the second and third phases, their approval will be completed during the first phase,” clarified the Prime Minister of Qatar.
